Cyber Essentials is a verified self-assessment against five core controls: firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection and patch management. Cyber Essentials Plus builds on that with an independent technical audit, where an assessor tests your systems directly to confirm those controls actually work in practice, not just on paper. Plus gives clients and insurers a higher level of assurance, and you need to hold Cyber Essentials before you can move on to it.
